One of the training activities we participated in was to teach a Sunday School class to 16-17 year olds. The scenario was that two of the teenagers had never had an experience of feeling the Holy Ghost. We had to use the scriptures and come up with a lesson plan on how we would teach this class. We then had to teach this to another Senior Missionary couple. Diana had a great scripture found in Galatians 5:22-23.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
The senior missionaries setting next to us, Elder and Sister Pexton, went first and shared their prepared lesson on the Holy Ghost. They shared a scripture from 3 Nephi when Christ came and how the Holy Ghost can bear testimony of Christ and God the Father. Elder Pexton then gave a strong testimony that he knew, through the Holy Ghost that Jesus is our Savior and Redeemer. Sister Pexton then shared how she knew the Holy Ghost was a comforter. She shared that she has only shared a personal experience with her children about her experience with the Holy Ghost being a comforter. She said When her husband died (she is remarried to her current husband and they are now here at the MTC as Senior Missionaries) she was so devastated. She was in her 50s and didn’t know what she was going to do. She was kneeling one evening shortly after her husband had died and she had this overwhelming experience where she a calmness, peace and comfort from her head all the way to her toes. She was crying as she related this experience to us. After her husband died she remarried 12 years later. Her current husband had a very similar experience when his wife died. He shared how really sad he was because the love of his life was no longer going to be there every day. He shared how the Holy Ghost brought peace and comfort to his heart and he knew everything was going to be okay. He remarried shortly after his wife had died. He felt prompted to contact a girlfriend he had in high school. The lady was one of his wife’s best friends growing up. They courted for a few months and were married. They are now on a mission together. When it was our turn to share a scripture about the Holy Ghost, Diana mentioned Galatians 5:22-23. Diana shared how most people can relate to the feelings of  love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance. She then tied these feelings to the feelings of the Holy Ghost and how they are similar. We don’t have to have thunder and lightening or visitations to tell us what we are feeling.I shared an experience of how the Holy Ghost can bring something to our remembrance.  I shared how I was taking a test and one part of the test had questions that the professor never taught and didn’t tell us would be on the test. I said a little prayer and asked Heavenly Father to help me with these questions. There were 5 questions that I hadn’t studied. Of all the sections on the test that was the only section I got all of the questions correct. It was a good experience having them teach and us teaching them.
