Wednesday, July 12, 2017 July 12, 2017 Opening Hymn: There is a Green Hill Far Away Sister Weaver Opening Prayer: Sister Lamb Quote: Elder Pierre-Louis Preach My Gospel: Sister Hansen on the Holy Ghost Book of Mormon: Morris’ Chiste: Elder Hubert shared how they decided to ride bikes instead of drive. After riding for about 10 miles they stopped at their first appointment and no one was there. They went to their backup plan and that was tracking. They started knocking on doors in an apartment complex. One lady was watching them. When they got to her apartment she invited them in. They taught her two lessons and asked her how she knew so much about the church. She said she was an inactive member. She said I didn’t want to interrupt your teaching. We taught the Book of Mormon from 3rd Nephi 27 and Mosiah 18 about taking upon us the name of Christ. After our meeting we asked the District missionaries to sing happy birthday to Denise John Brooks (we home and visit taught...

July 15-16, 2017

15-16 July 2017 On Saturday, July 15th, we took some Airmen to the Baton Rouge Louisiana Temple. It was great. We took a group of Airmen from Keesler AFB. We do this every 3rd Saturday. It was pouring down rain so we couldn't get a great picture.  We had a large umbrella (we were the only ones coming out of the temple that had one). One of the couples coming out of the temple was from California. They were just there on vacation. We traded off using the umbrella and taking pictures of each other. When I came back to give him the umbrella I turned to close the umbrella and doused him with all the water coming off the umbrella. He was soaked and I was embarrassed once again. Elder Bluth, an Area Seventy, was coming out of the temple and saw Mom's badge. He asked about our mission and then said, "I will see your Mission President tomorrow at our Coordinating Council meeting. On our way home we stopped at a local restaurant. The Airmen always like to eat Cajun food...

Sunday July 9, 2017

Today is Sunday, July 9, 2017. We had a great day. We had 24 at our military Branch today, with one investigator, a Marine, Arturo Garcia. The missionaries taught him a lesson. Diana was asked to teach Sunday School with just a few minutes notice. She did great. She said, I need to call Gayla and get her notes from lesson 13 from the Doctrine and Covenants. We had dinner afterwards for everyone. It was great sharing a mean together.

Later in the evening we went to the Triangle Chapel to teach Addiction Recovery class. No one showed up but we were available to teach. We also went on a 10 mile bike ride along the Mississippi Coast.

July 3, 2017 Today is Monday. Sister Renon Rudy, A1C (new Airman that recently arrived from Utah; she is in the National Guard) invited us to the Fish Bowl to share dinner with 15 or so Airman that were there for training. Diana, Renon, Michelle (new LDS Airman from Hawaii) were the only LDS there and all the others were not members of our faith yet. It was a great evening. We talked to a lot of them sharing why were are here at Keesler Air Force Base. Renon kept introducing us as missionaries from her church. Diana made a fruit tray and we brought some sodas.  We also talked with Lisa and Warren (they are church leaders from their Protestant church).

July 1, 2017 Pops in the Park

Dear Family, Whew! Slowed down just enough to share this remarkable and fun experience we had yesterday, Saturday, July 1st. The first week we were here we went to what is called the "Fish Bowl." Every Friday all the new military service members that arrived during the week attend a community outreach. Many community and service organizations attend to invite the service members to come to their organization. The LDS church has a booth where we assist the Chaplain's office in letting everyone know when the different church groups have their meetings and activities. The LDS church offers Addiction Recovery classes Tuesday and Family Home Evening Wednesday, nights and we have regular church services Sundays from 1:00-3:00 pm. A lady by the name of Heather asked us if we were the LDS representatives that were going to provide all the names to help set up, support and take down the upcoming "Pops in the Park" 4th of July Celebration. We told her we didn't kn...

Sister Venessa Turek Sake Conference

June 25, 2017 Today at our Stake Conference we had an amazing sister, Venessa Turek, share a great message on hasting the work of salvation. She began by quoting a talk by President Russell M. Nelson, titled, “A Plea to My Sisters.” She shared the following. “Thirty-six years ago, in 1979, President Spencer W. Kimball made a profound prophecy about the impact that covenant-keeping women would have on the future of the Lord’s Church. He prophesied: “Much of the major growth that is coming to the Church in the last days will come because many of the good women of the world will be drawn to the Church in large numbers. This will happen to the degree that the women of the Church reflect righteousness and articulateness in their lives and to the degree that the women of the Church are seen as distinct and different—in happy ways—from the women of the world.” My dear sisters, you who are our vital associates during this winding-up scene, the day that President Kimball foresaw is today. You ...
